Happy Memorial Day

Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. The American Flag should fly at half staff until noon and at full staff from noon until sunset.  While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country. Memorial Day is for us to remember, reflect and honor those who have given their all in service to their country, died in the line of military duty. So as you enjoy your long weekend, barbecues, and beverages, remember the reason for the holiday. Visit a graveyard and place some red carnations on a fallen soldier’s grave (a forgotten tradition.)  And if you do know of a local Memorial Day parade taking place, try to attend.  Show your respect and gratitude to the families that have lost their soldiers in battle.
